| Aquaman and "the Other League" cover by Ivan Reis |
Aquaman #7 is written by Geoff Johns with art by Ivan Reis.
This issue begins "the Other League" story arc in Aquaman. Apparently, we will be meeting members of another team that Aquaman has been apart of other than the Justice League. The first member we meet is Kahina The Seer as she is being hunted down by Aquaman's arch-nemesis, Black Manta. The Seer, who can see the future, is murdered by Black Manta. Just as her life fades away, she has a vision of Black Manta stabbing Aquaman with his own trident.

Meanwhile, Aquaman and Mera have just wrapped up a huge victory over the beings known as The Trench. During their battle, they found a cryptic hologram from an ancient Atlantean that suggests the sinking of Atlantis was no natural event. Aquaman and Mera turn to scientist and Atlantis expert Dr. Stephen Shin to help provide answers. Since the first issue, it's been made clear that Dr. Shin is someone we shouldn't completely trust. While Dr. Shin is studying the message, he is attacked by Ya' Wara, another member of The Other League. Ya' Wara informs Aquaman that The Seer is dead and blames Dr. Shin for her murder. Aquaman gets Ya' Wara to pause her attack and the issue ends with Mera demanding answers to what is going on.

Aquaman has been a fun ride so far. Both Johns and Reis did a terrific job in relaunching Green Lantern Hal Jordan's career, and their success has definitely continued into Aquaman. With this issue introducing a very menacing Black Manta into the new 52, I'm very interested in the inevitable upcoming battle between the two.

I was a bit concerned about this arc going in- I'm not a big fan of stories that are supposed to reveal a character's secret past. I liked this issue, though. I think there's a lot of promise here. It should be interesting to see why Arthur kept this a secret even from Mera.
