Batman #7 Review

Batman #7 is written by Scott Snyder with art by Greg Capullo.

Continuing Batman's battle with the Court of Owls, this issue opens with Batman's escape from the Court's imprisonment.  After making it to a secret entrance to the batcave, Batman meets with Alfred and discovers that the body of the Talon (the Court's assassin who Batman spent weeks fighting) had been recovered from the river and is in the batcave.  Batman asks to be left alone while he examines the body.

The story then picks up with a shared scene from Nightwing #7.  Nightwing ignores Batman's demand to be left alone in the cave and confronts Batman on the Court of Owls.  Batman informs Nightwing that the Talon is actually Nightwing's great-grandfather who has been kept alive by chemicals that were leaked into his system over a long period of time.  Batman then explains that Nightwing was selected by the Court of Owls to be this era's Talon, but those plans were altered when Bruce Wayne (Batman) took in an orphaned Dick Grayson (Nightwing).

The story concludes with the Court of Owls awakening and releasing dozens of Talons onto Gotham City.  This ties directly into the May event, The Night of Owls.

The Talons are released on Gotham

As I stated in my Nightwing review, I really liked the use of the shared scene between the Batman and Nightwing titles.  I'm glad that I read Batman first as seeing the Talon strapped down in the batcave would have been somewhat of a spoiler had I seen it in Nightwing first. That was never really an issue since Batman is usually my first read when I receive my new comics.  I'm definitely looking forward to how the Talons will be handled across the various batbooks.
